HIRS COLLECTIVE
The HIRS Collective rely on an ethos of de-individualization. It is their strength, and their love. Through co-opting the anarchist phrase “No Gods. No cops. No masters,” as a ‘fuck you’ to the disingenuity of too much art and life of the capitalist world at large, the group introduced themselves as humanly as possible. Yes, there are individuals who make up this band/Collective/organization. Yes, the politics are in play, which a listener might likely expect from a group that comes from the leftist punk rock world that boasts community, acceptance, and radicalism. However, these are the foundations the HIRS Collective itself. As such, the Collective watched these community virtues and ideologies change through overuse and abuse and holds to them more tightly because of it.

In the world of heavy music, few bands embrace dynamics and negative space like Kowloon Walled City. Since forming 16 years ago, the band has increasingly refined its deconstructed approach to noise rock, math rock, and doom. Chicago-based Djunah spotlights the talents of Donna Diane, who pulls triple duty, simultaneously playing guitar, singing, and pulverizing a Moog bass organ with her foot. Drawing a broad range of comparisons from Diamanda Galás to Melvins, Djunah (pronounced “JUNE-uh”) pairs her powerful, unrestrained vocals and abrasive guitar with punishing drums courtesy of Jared Karns (Their/They’re/There, Hidden Hospitals).

THOUSANDAIRE
Thousandaire is, from left to right: Andrew Wiggins, Tom Bruno, and Chad LeBlanc from Atlanta, Ga. They are not fashion models, t-shirt salesmen, poets, activists, charismatic cult leaders, or influencers. They are musicians. They are good at music, not good at "content". Don't expect much of anything besides regular rock and roll at a reasonably high volume. Their debut LP premiered on June 12 2020 on Colonel Records - Recorded and mixed at Standard Electric Recorders in Atlanta by Damon Moon. The single "Promise" was self-released on February 18 2022 - Also recorded and mixed at Standard by Damon. Perhaps the most surprising thing about Thousandaire’s self-titled debut was how unassuming it was. Yes, it sounded terrific and it was littered with massive riffs and scaling melodies that lingered in your head. But it was also quite inscrutable. It didn’t yield any grand narratives or wide-arching themes. As a record, it sort of put its head down and chugged along, satisfied to deliver one head-nodding cut after another. All killer, no filler as the expression goes.
